Local authorities will be required to provide plots for self builders who demand them under a Private Member’s Bill that is progressing into law
The so-called ‘Right to Build’ Bill will require local authorities to maintain a register of constituents interested in building their own home and require that they ‘have regard’ to that register when coming up with local plans and other housing related initiatives.
Local authorities will be required to set up registers within a year if and when the Bill becomes law — so by May 2016 you might well be able to register with your local authority as a would-be self builder.
